Our sitting room is graced with an ugly, very inefficient fireplace with blackened bricks and paintwork, evidence of a great deal of smoking over time. It’s coming out to be replaced by a wood burner.
Nigel has taken off the mantel, that revealed a rather lovely old beam, and knocked out the the large bricks.
The bricks can be used to make a BBQ in the garden – a job for the Easter Bank Holiday!
Now awaiting plastering and wood burner.
An interesting find..
The carpet covered the stairs, leading from the sitting room into the study, turned out to be brick and rather rustic. Taking off the skirting boards was a winner too. The bricks were covered with a layer of adhesive – removed with paint thinners.
Keeping things simple to bring back the nature of the house.
